A Louisiana lottery player visiting New York has won a life-changing $1 million prize from the New York Millionaire scratch-off game. The lucky winner, an Alexandria resident, scored the game’s top prize, beating the staggering odds of 1 in 2 million. The victory was announced by the New York Lottery on Wednesday.
The player, who was in New York at the time, decided to try his luck with the $5 New York Millionaire scratch-off ticket. The winning ticket was purchased at Citgo Krishna Food, located at 133 Jefferson St. in Monticello, New York.
Much to the surprise of the Louisiana resident, he won the first of the game’s four $1 million top prizes. The odds of winning this grand prize from the New York Millionaire scratch-off are 1 in 1,976,400.
Rather than opting for the annuity payments, the winner chose the one-time lump sum payout. After taxes and withholdings, the Alexandria resident’s bank account was boosted by $436,171.
